Kia ora whānau,
The information below is for our Rippa Rugby Tournament taking place tomorrow in Wairoa.
???? Arrival time: 9:30am (please ensure students are there on time)
???? Start time: 10:00am
???? Finish time: Approximately 1:40pm – 2:00pm
What to bring/wear:
Black shorts
Te Mahia School sports top
Hat
Water bottle
Morning tea and lunch
Sunscreen (please provide their own if they have allergies or sensitivities)
Players will be playing barefoot, so no footwear is required during games.
We are looking forward to a great day of sport and teamwork for our tamariki!

Location: Lambton Square, Wairoa
Postponement Day: Thursday 28th May
Timings
Team meeting time is 9:30 am, with play getting underway at 10 am
Finish time 1:40pm - 2pm
Team information
Teams are 7 aside, with 3 girls needing to be on the pitch at all times. We suggest making teams of 10 to ensure you have subs and can rest players.
All players play in bare feet.
Schools are required to bring their own Rippa Set. (HBRU has a limited amount of Rippa sets we can loan out for the day as a last resort)
Each school is to provide a first aid kit for their teams
Photos/video may be taken during the competition and used for promotional purposes by Hawke's Bay Rugby
Any Injuries sustained on the day are the responsibility of the School or the Individual.
Rules + information Overview:
Mixed teams, must have 7 on field at once ( 4 boys, 3 girls)
Years 3–6 (Rippa Rugby):
6 rips = turnover
All restarts begin with a free pass (tap on ground, pass to teammate)
No kicking
Ball dropped backwards = play on
Forward = turnover
No spinning
Years 7–8 (Rip Rugby which is the new format)
4 rips = turnover
Kick-offs, uncontested scrums, and lineouts (free pass from penalties)
Kicking allowed
Ball dropped backwards = play on
Forward = turnover
One 360° spin allowed (more than one = turnover)

Rock Your Socks
Friday 20th March is Rock Your Socks day to celebrate inclusion and difference at school for World Down Syndrome Day. So dance into school wearing colourful odd socks!
The theme for 2026 is “Together Against Loneliness” as a reminder to everyone that having good friendships and the feelings of being valued and knowing you belong is important for wellbeing.
Parenting Course
